This book covers the syllabus of the course Maintenance Engineering offered to 8th semester mechanical engineering and production engineering students as elective subject of Anna University.
This book consists of 5 units.
· Unit 1 deals a basic Principles of maintenance planning, Objectives and principles of planned maintenance activity, Importance and benefits of sound Maintenance systems, Reliability and machine availability, MTBF, MTTR and MWT, Factors of availability, Maintenance organization and Maintenance economics.
· Unit 2 discusses Maintenance categories, Preventive maintenance, maintenance schedules, repair cycle, Principles and methods of lubrication and TPM.
· Unit 3 addresses the representation of Condition Monitoring, Cost comparison with and without CM, On-load testing and off-load testing, Methods and instruments for CM, Temperature sensitive tapes, Pistol thermometers and wear-debris analysis
· Unit 4 provides repair methods for beds, slideways, <font color="black">spindles, gears, lead screws and bearings, Failure analysis, Failures and their development, Logical fault location methods and sequential fault location.
· Unit 5 illustrates repair methods for Material handling equipment, Equipment records, Job order systems and use of computers in maintenance.
Each chapter ends with several review questions. At the tail end of this book Anna University Solved question papers have been added, which will enable the students to understand the question pattern.
